KindRED Pride Foundation and One Magical Weekend to Honor LGBTQ Military & Veteran Community

Monday April 22, 2019

In an act of support and solidarity, organizers of the LGBTQ+ events during Gay Disney — KindRED Pride Foundation, Girls in Wonderland, One Magical Weekend, and Tidal Wave Party - will provide buy one get one free (BOGO) event tickets to members of the LGBTQ military and veteran community on a first-come, first-served basis. Taking place on the first weekend in June, this year marks the festival's 29th year bringing international D.J.s, spectacular nightly events, and daytime pool parties to the most magical place on Earth!

"We have worked with OutServe-SLDN since before DADT was overturned to show our appreciation and support for all service members and the important work you do year-round," says Tom Christ, with One Magical Weekend.

To facilitate, the event producers have teamed up with OutServe-SLDN (Servicemembers Legal Defense Network). Now in its 26th year, OutServe-SLDN is the nation's largest association for the LGBTQ and HIV+ military and veteran communities. With nearly 8,000 active members and 54,000 active supporters located in its 81 chapters throughout the world, the organization is dedicated to securing equitable conditions for America's LGBTQ and HIV+ service members, veterans, and their families by ending all forms of discrimination and harassment based on their actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or HIV status.

"We are thrilled to be working with these LGBTQ event producers and the KindRED Pride Foundation to facilitate a safe, welcoming, and affirming space for our nation's selfless patriots this Pride season," said OutServe-SLDN Executive Director Andy Blevins. "At a time when their commander-in-chief is actively working to prevent many of them from serving openly and authentically, it is more important than ever to remind our siblings-in-arms that their service to this nation is appreciated not despite their identities and orientations, but because of them. We look forward to seeing you all at the most magical place on Earth as we kick-start this year's Pride festivities!"

The festival was originally jump-started through an impromptu meeting of 75 friends that were looking for an activity to begin their annual pride celebrations. The festival's signature red shirts have been a staple since June 1991 and now serve as a symbol of support and solidarity throughout the year. The Kindred Pride Foundation hosts an online store in support of the festival's activities, raising funds for participating organizations and encouraging them to participate in the "RED Shirt Pride Day" throughout the world. The shirt designed specifically for OutServe-SLDN features its Rainbow Shield logo, referencing an education campaign designed to ensure veterans services officers and services providers receive necessary and culturally competent trainings to effectively and efficiently advocate for our nation's LGBTQ and HIV+ veteran populations. The shirt can be purchased through the only store at

A portion of proceeds from these events additionally goes to the KindRED Pride Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the endeavors of like-minded charities for the education, promotion, and celebration of Diversity, Inclusion, Equality, Safe Expression, and Kindness and create a global movement for the first Saturday of June each year where all LGBT+ persons and allies wear a RED Shirt as a message of our "KindRED" spirit.
