Trump Impersonator Defrauds Thousands From Supporters

A 22-year-old DoorDash delivery man from Pennsylvania reportedly used a social media scam, which included creating the fake organization called "Gay Voices for Trump," to solicit donations from Trump supporters.

As reported by People, Joshua Hall is a "big Trump supporter," but that didn't stop him from defrauding his fellow supporters out of thousands of dollars.

It all started with a Tweet last November where Hall posed as Trump's older sister, Elizabeth Trump Grau.

"Hall gained widespread attention in November when Trump, 74, mistakenly retweeted a post from one of Hall's accounts believing it was actually his older sister, Elizabeth Trump Grau," People reports. "The fake tweet referenced Trump's baseless claims about his 2020 election loss, to which the president responded: "Thank you Elizabeth. LOVE!"

In fact, Hall's social media impersonations of the Trump family became so widespread, he even landed an interview with the New York Times about them.

"I was like shellshocked," Hall said about Trump retweeting his message, the New York Times reported at the time. "I'm a big Trump supporter, but I'm thinking, 'He's got to know that that's a parody.' How does he not know?"

Hall allegedly set up a series of fake social media accounts posing as Trump's son, Barron, and even his dead brother Robert. The accounts gained more than 100,000 followers, reports People. That's when the defrauding allegedly began.

"While posing as the former president's brother Robert, who died in August, Hall promoted a fake organization called "Gay Voices for Trump," said a statement from the Justice Department. He then reportedly received more than $7,000 via a GoFundMe, the Washington Post reported.

Hall now faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty for fraud and identity theft.
