Twitter Offers Ironic Responses to Nicki Minaj's Silence after Husband Says Gay Slur

READ TIME: 3 MIN.

When Nicki Minaj spoke to her fans on Instagram Live Friday, she was joined by her husband Kenneth Petty. The conversation was to be about her upcoming music projects and her relationship with him.

But a controversial exchange ensued when Petty sabotaged an empowering message Minaj was giving her fans: "Don't you let anybody or anything steal your mother fucking joy," the "Last Time I Saw You" rapper said. But as she finished the sentence Petty, sitting behind her added with a smirking smile, "That's right, especially little fags or fuck boys."

Minaj said nothing in response, reports the New York Post.

On social media fans were quick to point out an irony in the exchange, with some questioning her allegiance to the queer community.

"Just insulted her entire male fanbase"

Another commented: "it's giving the popular girl who says she's for the gays but let her boyfriend say slurs while she laughs"

A third pointed out, "This is crazy especially knowing 90% of her fans are gay men."

While a fourth noted, "This is the second time he has said this around her and she didn't correct him. Her fandom is mostly gay men smh"

Another writes, "He ain't complaining when the same gays are paying his court fees and funding his wife lifestyle"

And Minaj's queer allyship was called out by another: "They still ain't learn that she don't care about the gays but their money. When's the last time you heard of her doing a gay pride or gay club pop up etc. She did Ru Paul and they swear she for the gays"

Minaj appeared as a guest judge on "RuPaul's Drag Race" in 2022.

Her lack of empathy for the victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre was also mentioned. "She definitely had no love or empathy for the pulse night club incident at all. But during her come up she also baited that she was bi to sell the Minaj name. They silent on all that"

Another user echoes a common thread in the comments: "They still ain't learn that she don't care about the gays but their money. When's the last time you heard of her doing a gay pride o gay club pop up etc. She did Ru Paul and they swear she for the gays"

The New York Post writes: "Petty's latest run-in with the law occurred in September 2023 when he was ordered to serve 120 days of home detention after he violated his probation by threatening Offset on social media. He was on probation for failing to register as a sex offender after marrying Minaj in 2019 and moving to California with her. His sentence included three years of probation and one year in home detention. He also had to pay a $55,000 fine."

The report continues: "Petty was also convicted of attempted rape in the first degree in April 1995 for an assault on a 16-year-old girl the year prior. Minaj has always defended him against the conviction and once claimed that he was only 15 years old when dating the defendant. Petty also previously pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in 2002. He was ultimately sentenced to a decade behind bars but was released in 2013 after serving seven years."

Petty and Minaj attended high school together at New York City's LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and reconnected in 2018.
